March 28th, 2009UncategorizedThis brings me onto trying to get hold of my favourite Glenmorangie and Genfiddich without paying the earth, I do this by buying direct from The Whisky exchange, I’ll not kid you if you use my link you not only save by buying over the internet direct, but I also receive a small commission, now my father having been a canny accountant would appreciate that. But seriously the overheads are a lot lower buying over the net, the Whisky Exchange people save on a number of overheads that helps keep the cost lower. Plus they are also offering smart deals, and quantity discounts, so it’s really a win win situation.
Take a look by clicking on one of the numerous links I’ve got dotted about this post for the Whisky exchange, and I think you will be very appreciative that you did, I know I was impressed, in fact it made me want to promote them to as many like minded people that I could find.
Ok that’s it for this post but I’ll be back, I’ve got a few stories to tell about my fathers escapades, he certainly was no angel and much was based on his love of spirits and the fairer sex, that’s why I’ve put the picture of the girl as the header of this blog, thought he’d appreciate it, my mother might not but I bet she understands.

With Las Vegas tourism numbers at their lowest they have been in a long time, Governor Jim Gibbons of Nevada would like to get California visitors here quicker and easier with a high speed train. For many years this idea has been nothing more than that, an idea. But Gibbons has recently met with Barrack Obama about applying the stimulus package to this idea.
If constructed this new high speed train would take southern California residents to Las Vegas in about 86 minutes and would avoid drivers to have to use interstate 15 to make the trek across the desert. The train travels at around 300 mph and sits on magnetic levitation technology. Currently this type of train has been used in Japan since 2003 and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gibbons have agreed to the project. This would stimulate local tourism for people not really willing to make the car ride but would enjoy taking a train ride to Las Vegas. Since more and more people are trying to stay closer to home for vacations this would be a great way to put some pep back into the Las Vegas economy as well as California’s. Certain steps have already been made to free up room for the project like a $45 million dollar study on the environmental impact for this project. Totals numbers to build the train would be in the ballpark of $12-$13 billion and would create many new jobs along with it. Nothing has been approved but officials are getting together to discuss options on how to allow this dream to come true.

We all make and crack jokes on couples who decide to elope and run off to Vegas to tie the knot. You can sit in your car in a drive through or have Elvis bring you and your loved one together in holy matrimony. Vegas is known for creative lovebirds and buffets and thousand flock every year to take advantage of the many unique and creative ways to show their love for their significant other. You can now take a helicopter flight into the Grand Canyon and get married as well. If you are going to do it I guess a helicopter ride into the dessert over looking one of the natural wonders of the world is a great way. You can even have an Elvis or Johnny Cash impersonator do the job for you just to spice things up and give you something else to tell your friends. You will have a professional photographer join and take up to 200 photos of the memorable experience so that you and your loved one can have something to remember it by. Imagine telling all your friends back home about the experience? It will definitely be and experience to remember. -

Microsoft Surface computers are now at the Rio iBar.Harrah’s is the first company to deploy a Microsoft Surface Computer with a suite of customized applications. Of course the units will be branded with Harrah’s / Rio branding, but the applications on the computer are quite intriguing.
Microsoft Surface is a 30-inch table display that individuals or multiple people can interact with digital content, using touch and gestures or using objects from the real world, like a glass, yes you can put your drink on it. I have seen it used in a scenario of laying our cell phones and it will tell you which phones they are and what capabilities they have. Yes we go to CES and other geek outings.
This table paired with electronic devices such as bluetooth, RFID, GPS will be really cool in the future.
The Rio’s iBar is located at the main entrance of the Rio. Literally as soon as you walk in the front doors 25 feet in-front of you is the ibar.
Each table is estimated to cost $10,000.
Microsoft has created applications for the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino iBar that include games a group can play together.
Here are some of the applications Microsoft built for Harrah’s
(from microsoft.com):• Flirt Vegas style by adding a hip ultra-lounge vibe to the flirting experience. This application allows guests to create an exciting new way to chat and meet people from one Surface to another. Strategically placed video cameras at each Surface add even more energy to the action, allowing guests to interact with old friends, flirt with new acquaintances, and take and send photos across the lounge.
• Mixologists are inspired to create and order their own signature cocktails for themselves or to send to that special someone across the room using Surface and Harrah’s intuitive food and beverage application.
• Hip-notic describes how guests will feel when kicking back to find and view the latest and most popular online videos with their friends on Surface.
• Head Games are taken to a whole new level with Harrah’s creative suite of play-for-fun games. With the unique Surface interface, Harrah’s adds an exciting new take on some old favorites such as High Roller bowling, Dissed multiplayer pickup pinball, and a Last Call musical memory game that encourage the whole group to play together. Leaderboards add excitement as guests compete with one another to see who can climb to the top of the scoreboard.
In addition to Harrah’s unique applications and play-for-fun games, the Surface units also feature a photos application and a virtual concierge application developed by Microsoft that Harrah’s customized for its environment.
• See and Be Scene is what guests can do as they tour all of Harrah’s Vegas properties and explore attractions in Vegas without leaving their seat at the iBar.
• Virtual Vegas aptly describes how guests will take a virtual walk down the Las Vegas strip on Surface, letting their fingers be the guide. Guests will be able to get information on the latest events and attractions at all Harrah’s properties throughout Vegas.

March 16th, 2009UncategorizedFlights to and from Las Vegas will be cut by and average of 25% due to rising fuel prices. So with fewer flights and rising costs Las Vegas Tourism may take a hit.
The cut comes from most major carriers and not the smaller ones so good deals are still out there.
If tourism in Las Vegas goes south we will once again see better hotel room rates.
