That’s right. They’re doing this for America.Dixie’s Dam Bar, which started life as Dixie’s Dam Country Bar in May, has finished its changeover at Hooter’s Casino, trading line dances for the mosh pit. Well, in theory anyway.
Jumping on the rock bandwagon that Wasted Space and Rok Vegas got rolling, Dixie’s has positioned itself as a rock bar with all the attitude that’s supposed to entail. Girls in bras and leather pants dance on the bar or on smaller stages to the side while pouring liquor straight into your greedy mouth. On the main bar, they use a pole mounted parallel to the bar to do tricks — like a set of hot, sweaty monkey bars. Bartenders get hostile with patrons while they dance behind the counter and jump on the mic to hype the crowd.
There’s only one big problem: Where’s the actual rock music? By our count, they played two sets of rock tunes Friday night over three hours. One was a pretty standard selection of Green Day, AC/DC, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Kid Rock (although when you’re trying to move away from a country theme, maybe “Cowboy” isn’t the best choice). The other was a completely awesome set of two Pantera songs, Slayer, Lamb of God and Dio’s “Holy Diver,” which we wish someone would just change to our new National Anthem already. To be fair, it’s about the only chance you’re going to get to hear Slayer at a bar in any casino, and that’s great. But.
Other than those two sets, there was a lot of regular old club music. Lady GaGa. Flo Rida. Etc. There was even a big hoedown number at one point. It’s not just Dixie’s, though. Rok and Wasted Space do the same thing, where they’ll mix top 40 in with “Back in Black.” We’d just like to know why none of the rock bars will spend all night playing actual rock music. Unless, of course, the government is keeping a lid on their right to rock.

If drinking a Hurricane doesn't get you laid, nothing will. The infamous drink of New Orleans combines white rum, Jamaican rum, 151 proof rum, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine. Or so I'm told.
About half way through the drink I started to summarize how the name originated. Perhaps it is because just one can cause you to become a category three drunk. Or maybe it was because as calm as it is before just one sip, disaster is sure to strike. It's crazy what 151 can make you think about.
The origin of the Hurricane can be traced to a little ol' bar called Pat O'Briens in the 1940's. Go figure the Irish had a hand in making one of the strongest drinks in the area. -

June 19th, 2009UncategorizedAnd on the seventh day, I go out. It’s been an entire week since I wrote and I know many are wondering if I’ve been sick, I know I have. But with the rapidly approaching St. Patrick’s Day Season, I feel the need to give my liver what will become known as ‘the calm before the storm’.
This is why I’ve chosen this restaurant for the next weekend stop on the bar crawl.
Half restaurant, half bar, it is the bar half that actually makes Buffalo Wild Wings a true hot spot. Known for, duh, their assortment of wings, they also offer awesome cheapo bar food with just enough grease to coat your stomach in order to choose between many, many of the beers they offer up on tap.Brace your inner child for the big screen television sets above the bar as well as electronic poker games and trivia games that you can play against other bar contestants which are also broadcast on televisions above the bar. -

Just a couple of acoustic balladeers out on the town, Cabrera partying like only a guy whose first album was produced by Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik can. Oakland wideout Arman Shields was also in the house. Teammate Michael Huff, a free safety, was at Pure on Friday.
LAX at Luxor had poker players David Williams and Jean-Robert Bellande for the second time this week. Former Broncos wideout Mark Jackson was also there. Tabu at MGM Grand, meanwhile had former Sunset Tan girl Molly Shea in for her 23rd birthday dancing on the tables with her friends.

Like most western states, Nevada has its share of ghost towns, but did you know Las Vegas is one of them? No, not the abandoned-mining-camp kind of ghost town, but a city with a good collection of ghosts, specters, unexplained wailings and things that go bump in the night. It's a city that never sleeps – in this world or any other.
